Budget-friendly tips to create the perfect backyard patio.

Budget-Friendly Tips to Create the Perfect Patio

One of our favourite things about Edmonton is the long summer nights that let us enjoy our patios and decks until the late hours of the evening. To prepare your space for endless summer fun with family and friends, we’ve put together a list of style tips and beautiful patio design ideas that won’t break the bank.

Set The Mood With Lights

When the sun starts to set there’s nothing quite as magical as igniting some string lights hung around or over your patio or deck. These lights will instantly enhance the feel-good atmosphere of the space with minimal effort. Framing your patio with solar lights or placing some chic lanterns on your tabletops will also give your outdoor space a finished look.

Get Creative With Flowers

There are so many fun and beautiful ways to incorporate summer’s favourite accessory into your patio décor. Think outside the (flower) box and add some blooms to your patio or deck with interesting and unique presentations. Have an old bookcase that you don’t know what to do with? Bring it outside and fill its shelves with some potted flowers in mismatched containers (think: oversized mugs, mason jars, etc.). If you’re really feeling that DIY vibe, consider painting the bookcase in a colour that accents your outdoor furniture.

Create A Patio Bar

Make use of that unused corner on your patio and turn it into your go-to happy hour spot! There are endless options for ways to create this social space and all you’ll have to do is choose which one works best for you. If you’re looking for a permanent fixture, you can install shelving onto the side of your home – just be sure to measure the height properly so that a bar stool can fit comfortably underneath. Adding a high table can also work if you don’t want to make the commitment of adding a permanent feature to your home’s exterior. Complete the look with a custom style ice bucket for keeping your bottled drinks cool. Try using a wheelbarrow for a vintage look, or a copper party tub sitting on top of a wooden table or barrel for a modern-cottage approach.

Shop Smart

Complete your ultimate patio style on budget with some savvy shopping techniques. Check out vintage shops to pick up accent pieces or décor elements at a fraction of the cost of what you’ll see in retail stores. And, don’t forget to plan ahead for next year! You’ll find some incredible deals towards the end of summer on big-ticket items like patio furniture or a shiny new BBQ, which may make it worth the wait.
