We are looking for a dedicated, detail-oriented and experienced Interior Designer to join our growing team! This is a contract position of a minimum of 6 months, and could last up to a year in duration.
The Interior Designer will work in our Choices by Design Centre, located in our west-Edmonton head office. He/She will collaborate with new home buyers in creating an interior living space that is customized to meet their budget, needs and style. This individual will guide purchasers through the selection process explaining available features and finishes, while providing expert advice and recommendations based upon in-depth knowledge of the organization’s products, customer budget, and home floorplan. The Interior Designer will be accountable for ensuring each purchaser’s interior selection process is seamless and efficient through the provision of excellent customer service, appropriate appointment preparation and the administration of final selections.
For clients, choosing their interior selections is one of the most exciting times in their home building process. Curating their custom interior selections is what makes their vision a reality. This is why a great design experience is so important. Building rapport through trust, honesty and genuine care for the customer is essential!
Responsibilities include:
- Lead the client interior selection process by helping clients navigate interior selections, upgrades and customizations for their new home.
- Build rapport with clients; seek to understand their needs, wants, style and budget in order to provide the best guidance and advice, individualized to each client.
- Provide pre and post Design appointment customer service to clients; provide details, answer questions, make changes to selections, etc.
- Aid customers with re-selections as required.
- Prepare for each client meeting by extensively reviewing sales documents, interior options included in the home, allowances, floorplans and layouts. Pre-order cabinet layouts and prepare documents and templates in advance of appointment.
- Lead clients through cabinetry layout and customizations and liaise with cabinetry companies on all requested changes and pricing.
- Work closely with the Estimating/Purchasing department as well as trades and suppliers on custom price requests.
- Prepare change orders in the NewStar system, take client payments, prepare reports in both Word and Excel, and upload documents to our homeowner portal.
- Build rapport with various suppliers to gain product knowledge and keep up to date with new product offerings.
- Maintain Coventry’s Choices by Design Center: keep samples & displays up to date.
- Select interior finishes for quick possession homes. And maintain quick possession colour board selections, adjusting for discontinued or new products as necessary.
- Organize and host Design Center Open Houses (temporarily on hold due to covid-19), and schedule one-on-one Design Center previews as necessary.

We are looking for a candidate who has:
- Degree or Diploma in Interior Design; Certified Interior Design Technologist (IDT)
- MUST have minimum 2 years experience as an interior design consultant with a new home builder
- Preference given to those with NewStar experience.
- Proven customer service skills.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to communicate tactfully and professionally with all levels of the organization and clientele.
- Self-starter with the ability to work in a faced paced environment, both independently as well as collaborate and contribute as a member of a larger team.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe. Sketchup and/or AutoCAD an asset.
- Positive and friendly can-do attitude.
